Denver Film is a nonprofit dedicated to engaging both their members and the general public in a lifelong relationship with film. Throughout the year, they host two events to promote this mission – the popular summer movie series Film on the Rocks, and the Denver Film Festival, a multi-day event that includes movies from around the world, filmmaker appearances, special events, and more. The promotional materials developed for each of these events aims to draw in their own unique audiences while celebrating the joy and excitement of experiencing film.

Film on the Rocks 2024

Attending an event under the stars at the arid, beautiful Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a rite of passage for Coloradans. We drew inspiration from this by creating a theme called Desert Mysticism to create the key visuals and merch.

With the client’s request to explore the golden era of 1970’s film, we leaned into a nostalgic illustration style of the era. The result was a bright, inviting concept that welcomed everyone to the annual cult-classic movie series, viewed at dusk at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Denver Film Festival 2022

While film festivals are known to naturally draw in film buffs, it was important that the brand for this year’s event communicated that this festival is for everyone. With this in mind, we developed a series of posters that captured how movies stay with you long after you leave the theater. To do so, we juxtaposed images of people into illustrated scenes that represent classic movie genres, such as sci-fi and romance. This resulted in colorful, imaginative scenes that welcomed all to experience these powerful cinematic events.

Film on the Rocks 2022

This event screens cult classic movies in the open air Red Rocks amphitheater throughout the summer. Converted into a drive-in series for two years due to the pandemic, it was important to convey that this 2022 event was in-person again. Finding a way to highlight the Red Rocks became key to communicating this. A fun sc-fi pulp art direction way developed to play into the revival of the event and serve as a nod to attendee’s love for old movies.
